The organizers of the 2025 FESTAC Africa festival, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and Ghana Tourism Authority, have successfully launched this year’s edition, aimed at promoting total African culture through tourism.

This year’s edition, scheduled from 21st to 27th September 2025 at the Independence Square, will be held on the theme, “Reimagining The Africa Renaissance”. Over the years, FESTAC AFRICA has grown to be more than just a cultural festival. It has become a platform for meaningful dialogue, economic transformation, and cultural renaissance, celebrating the vibrancy and potential of the beloved continent. Each edition has demonstrated the festival’s power to unite nations, drive economic growth, and amplify the voices of Africa’s creators, entrepreneurs, and change-makers.

Mr. Kofi Okyere Darko, Head of Diaspora Affairs at the Presidency, spoke at the official launch in Accra. He emphasized the need for Africans to move beyond imagination and work collectively to achieve unity and development. He commended the festival’s organizers and urged Ghanaians to attend the event in large numbers.

“We can’t spend sixty-eight years still imagining. It’s okay to re-imagine, but I think it’ll be good for us to be a bit more proactive and start working intentionally, collectively as a continent to make sure that our vision is achieved and in our lifetime.” – Mr. Kofi Okyere Darko, stated.

Speaking on behalf of Maame Afua Houadjeto, CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, Deputy CEO, stated that the FESTAC Africa Festival 2025, themed “Harnessing Health, Culture, Trade, Climate Change, Gender Equity, and Tourism for Sustainable Economic Growth,” is a landmark celebration of African culture, creativity, and economic opportunities.

Mr. Aggrey mentioned that the event seeks to build sustainable linkages between culture and trade, unlocking opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses, artisans, creators, and innovators across Africa. Its also aims to elevate African women and youth, lead on climate action, and rewrite the African narrative.

“Together, let us light the torch of a new Pan-African era — one of innovation, sustainability, and shared prosperity. “This is our time — our time to showcase Africa’s health innovations, our time to elevate African women and youth, our time to lead on climate action, and our time to rewrite the African narrative.” Maame Afua Houadjeto, CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, as read by Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey.

Engr. Yinka Abioye, Chairman of FESTAC Africa Renaissance, disclosed that FESTAC Africa is a Pan-African movement of cultural reclamation, honoring ancestral wisdom, economic empowerment, and African pride. Engr. Abioye urged Ghanaians to support the initiative by attending and experiencing true African culture and tourism.

As part of the festival, several activities, including conferences, music and movie nights, sporting events, exhibitions, and others, have been outlined to ensure successful hosting. The organizers also disclosed that suitable measures, including security protocols, well-trained volunteers, and partners, have also been put in place.

The 2025 FESTAC Africa Renaissance festival is expected to attract over 10,000 participants from across various African countries, with Ghana being the center of attraction.
