The Ghana Baseball & Softball Federation on Saturday, 28th June, 2025 officially launched the 2025 National League in Accra, marking a significant milestone in the country’s baseball history. 

Speaking at the launch event, Mr. Ernest Danso, President of the Federation, celebrated the realization of a long-held vision. He highlighted the journey of baseball in Ghana, from its humble beginnings to the current structured professional league.

The league’s launch represents a turning point, providing a platform for talent discovery, growth, and international exposure. Mr. Danso emphasized the importance of building a sustainable ecosystem, attracting investment, and opening doors for educational and athletic advancement. He thanked coaches, volunteers, sponsors, and partners for their tireless work and dedication.

“Today, we take a giant leap forward. This league is not just about competition; it’s a platform for talent discovery, a channel for growth, and a statement that Ghana is ready to take its place on the continental and global stage,” Mr. Danso said.

The Ghana Olympic Committee’s President, Mr. Richard Akpokavie, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the power of sports to transform young people’s lives. He encouraged athletes to embody the Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship, which can benefit them beyond their sporting careers.

“Sports has the power to make these young people better human beings for themselves, for their families, and for the country. It teaches them dedication, hard work, teamwork, and certain things that you cannot get if you don’t do sports,” Mr. Akpokavie said.

The 2025 National League, which promises to take Ghanaian baseball to new heights, would witness 4 clubs including Shai Osudoku Hawks, La Dodgers, Tema Giant Hitters, and Tema Tigers, with a focus on talent development, competition, and community engagement.

The launch also saw some interesting and mouthwatering encounters between the clubs as the first pairings for the season. In attendance at the event were top dignitaries including reps from embassies, foreign partners, federation heads and among others.
