Ghana Hajj Taskforce Confirms Deaths, Addresses Visa Issues
The Ghana Hajj Taskforce confirmed the deaths of two Ghanaian pilgrims during the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Approximately 6,000 Ghanaians traveled to participate in the annual Islamic ritual, which began in early May 2025.
In addition, five pilgrims were repatriated to Ghana due to visa-related issues. Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini, Head of Corporate Affairs at the Taskforce, clarified that the repatriation resulted from errors in visa issuance, not criminal activity.
Fuseini emphasized that the term “deportation” is inappropriate, as it implies criminality, which does not apply to the affected pilgrims. He noted that attempts to correct visa alignments led to unintended withdrawals of their permits.
The Taskforce is actively working to resolve these visa issues to enable the repatriated pilgrims to return to Mecca and complete their pilgrimage. Efforts include coordination with Saudi authorities to address logistical challenges.
