The Greater Accra Hockey Association officially commenced the 2025 Salpholda Hockey League on Saturday, May 3rd, at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch with a total of 26 teams across four main divisions. The divisions include Men’s A and B, Women’s, Masters, and Development.

Men’s A features 7 teams, Men’s B has 6, while the Masters and Women’s divisions each have 5 teams. The Development division rounds out the competition with 3 emerging sides.

In the opening game, GRA announced their intentions in dominant fashion, thrashing LegonKnights 5-0. Ignatius Appiah Blankson was the star of the match, netting four goals, while Prince Ajetey added the fifth.

Another exciting clash saw Golden Sticks play out a thrilling 3-3 draw with the defending champions of the Masters division, Multi Stix.

League sponsor Salpholda made a strong statement, cruising past NDK Financiers with a 6-0 win — the highest scoring game of the week.

In another headline match, the Reformers couldn’t “imprison” the controllers of the Ghana Cedi, as defending Men’s champions Exchequers outclassed them 4-1. Exchequers’ head coach, Richard Attipoe, though pleased with the result, voiced his dissatisfaction with the missed chances and the single goal conceded: “We should have scored more goals. It’s rather unfortunate we conceded one, but we will remain focused and defend our title.”

The final game of week 1 featured a highly anticipated showdown between the Police Men and Army Men. The game drew massive attention, and the law enforcers rose to the occasion, humbling the Army by 3 goals to 1.

Speaking after the match, Police captain Obed Yesu Adom shared his joy at finally overcoming their long-time rivals: “Since Army came into the league, we either lost to them or drew. This season, we wanted to change the narrative — and that is exactly what we’ve done today. It’s a huge morale booster, and we’ll build on this momentum in the coming fixtures.”

Week 1 of the Salpholda Hockey League has set the stage for a exciting season filled with fierce competition, passion, and plenty of goals.

GRA’s Ignatius Appiah Blankson leads the goal chat with 4 goals.
