The Ghana Police Service has arrested 26 individuals for recklessly discharging toy firearms in a public area. The suspects are currently assisting with investigations and are expected to face court soon. Authorities have also seized a significant number of toy guns as evidence in their investigation into the growing menace.

Special police operations are underway to apprehend others involved in similar activities, which are reportedly gaining traction in some parts of the country.

In an official statement, the Police Service warned that openly displaying and discharging toy firearms violates the Criminal Offences Act. The act is considered offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace, contrary to Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

“We caution the youth to desist from this act as it constitutes an offence under our laws,” the statement read.

The police further reassured the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and order across the country. “We would like to once again assure the public that the Police will do all that it takes for our beloved country to continue to be at peace with herself,” the statement concluded.
