Probe Begins Into Fatal Z9 Helicopter Crash

The Acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced the formal commencement of investigations into the August 6, 2025, Z9 helicopter crash that killed eight people.

In a statement issued on August 25, Dr Forson, who also serves as Minister of Finance, detailed the composition of the Investigation Board. The board is chaired by the National Security Coordinator, with members drawn from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana).

He confirmed that the board will receive external technical support from the United States Air Force. Visiting investigators from the US will provide advisory assistance, while the board also has the authority to engage other experts, both local and international.

The ministry further revealed that a preliminary investigative team, formed immediately after the crash, has completed its evidence-gathering work and will present its report to the board. This report is expected to guide the wider inquiry.

The Investigation Board has been given 30 days to complete its work and submit a comprehensive report. The findings are anticipated to provide clarity on the causes of the crash and inform future aviation safety measures.
