Indian National Arrested as Investigations Intensify
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has revealed that 40 of the over 1,300 missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have been retrieved. The containers were traced to an Indian national who allegedly stored them in a warehouse in Kpone.
Background: Over 1,300 ECG Containers Missing
A recent investigative report uncovered that more than 1,300 ECG containers meant for clearance at Tema Port had gone missing. The chairman of the investigative committee, Prof. Innocent Senyo Acquah, disclosed that ECG initially claimed to have 2,491 uncleared containers filled with cables and essential electrical equipment. However, an independent audit at Tema Port found only 1,134 containers, leaving 1,347 containers unaccounted for.

Indian National Arrested with 40 Missing Containers
Speaking on TV3’s News Central on Thursday, March 27, 2025, Minister John Jinapor confirmed that national security operatives had retrieved 40 of the missing containers after tracing them to a warehouse in Kpone.
The briefing I got this morning… the information I got is that they’ve already traced about 40 of them to a particular terminal warehouse in Kpone, which belonged to an Indian man. They have confiscated all the 40 containers and moved them to a secured location,” he disclosed.
The Indian national, upon interrogation, claimed he had purchased the containers last year. Law enforcement agencies are now investigating who sold the state-owned containers to him.
Full-Scale Investigation Underway
Minister Jinapor assured the public that investigations would continue until all missing containers are retrieved or their monetary value recovered.
There are also reports of other areas where intelligence is being picked up. They will trace and retrieve all of them and fish out the perpetrators before a court of competent jurisdiction,” he stated.
He further warned against political interference, emphasizing that those responsible would face prosecution.
Let me just say that when we start prosecuting these people, let no one say that this is witch-hunting. These are properties of the state, and we will use every legitimate means to ensure that we retrieve them,” he cautioned.

Attorney General, Police to Lead Prosecution
The findings of the investigation were presented to Minister John Jinapor on March 26, 2025, who described the situation as alarming. He assured that a full-scale investigation, involving the Attorney General and the Police, would be conducted to bring those responsible to justice.
With 1,307 containers still missing, authorities are under pressure to intensify efforts to locate the remaining cargo and hold those involved accountable.
