Health Minister Confirms Progress On Salary Payments

Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has confirmed that 7,000 nurses have officially been placed on the national payroll. He assured that the remaining nurses are in the process of being migrated.

The minister announced during a surprise visit to the Bibiani Government Hospital in the Western North Region on Thursday.

He explained that delays in processing clearances from 2024 had created challenges. Some nurses were only posted in 2025, but the President directed that health workers should not be sent home despite a wider freeze.

Out of 15,000 clearances, about 13,500 nurses were recruited. From this number, 10,000 names have already been captured on the payroll, with 7,000 currently receiving monthly salaries. The other 3,000 are being gradually added.

Akandoh also addressed concerns about doctors reportedly going without pay for up to eight months. He stated that he would investigate those claims before making further comments.
