The Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA) has expressed its strong dissatisfaction with comments made by Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, regarding the real estate industry. In an interview with Joy News, Sam George had alleged that the real estate sector in the country serves as a front for money laundering. He called on authorities and the government to closely monitor the industry.

In response to these assertions, GREDA released a statement deeming Sam George’s remarks reckless and irresponsible. The association expressed its disappointment at the MP’s unsubstantiated claims and called for a retraction and apology within the next seven days, threatening legal action otherwise.

GREDA highlighted that its members are diligent Ghanaians who face economic challenges like any other business sector. The association asserted its commitment to collaborating with the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) and other relevant agencies to implement Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. GREDA underlined its efforts to comply with these regulations and contribute positively to the economy by providing housing solutions and generating employment opportunities.

The statement concluded by serving notice to Sam George that the association reserves the right to pursue legal action if the demanded retraction and apology are not provided. The statement was issued by the Executive Council of GREDA.
