An accountant employed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) has been brought before the Circuit Court in Accra on 33 counts of defrauding by false pretense. The accused, Gabriel Akosah Bobie, aged 45, allegedly defrauded 33 health supportive workers of a total of GHc563,500. He purportedly promised to secure them financial clearance and biometric registration within the service.

During the court proceedings, Gabriel Akosah Bobie pleaded not guilty to all 33 counts. Despite his plea, the court granted him bail in the amount of GHc600,000, requiring three sureties, each backed by titled documents. The case has been adjourned to September 4, with the prosecution directed to provide necessary disclosures.

The prosecuting officer, DSP Evans Kesse, presented the facts of the case, indicating that the victims were health supportive workers from Ahamadiya Health Service. The accused allegedly operated between 2019 and 2022, using agents to advertise his services for securing financial clearance and biometric registration. The complainants, expressing interest, paid various sums of money to facilitate the process through mobile money accounts and a Ghana Commercial Bank account.

After receiving a total of GHc563,500 from the victims, the accused reportedly failed to fulfill his promise and went into hiding. The case came to light when the accused was arrested in a similar case in Accra on July 19, 2023. Subsequently, the complainants filed reports against him, leading to the ongoing legal proceedings.

Despite his denial of the charges, further investigations revealed that the accused had allegedly collected money from other unsuspecting individuals under the same pretense. The accused’s arrest and subsequent trial shed light on the importance of addressing fraudulent activities to safeguard the interests of the public and maintain trust in financial transactions.
