Reverend Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, the Chairman of the Ga Presbytery, has been elected as the new Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG). He succeeds Rt Rev. Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, whose tenure is set to end on November 30.

The decision was made by the General Assembly of PCG in a meeting held in Abetifi, the capital of the Kwahu East District in the Eastern Region. Reverend Dr Kwakye received overwhelming support from the assembly, with 220 endorsements in favor of his appointment and only six opposing votes.

Other nominees for the position, including Rev. Dr Seth Kissi and Rev. Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, withdrew their nominations and expressed their support for Reverend Dr Kwakye’s candidacy.

Upon his election, Reverend Dr Kwakye expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and saw the victory as a divine call to serve the church in a higher and more challenging capacity. He emphasized the importance of support from the PCG General Assembly and its members to ensure his success in his new role.

Reverend Dr Kwakye acknowledged the confidence shown by fellow ministers and assured them of his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities as the new Moderator. The election highlights the church’s democratic process in selecting its leadership and the importance of unity and collaboration within the denomination.
