In the ongoing theft case at the residence of Cecilia Dapaah, former Sanitation Minister, eight individuals are set to appear in court on Tuesday for their second appearance. The charge sheet was recently amended by police prosecutors based on the Attorney General’s advice.

Charges include stealing and conspiracy to steal over $1 million and 300,000 Euros, allegedly taken from Dapaah’s home. Seven of the suspects were brought to court on August 8, while one remains at large. Among those arraigned, two lactating mothers were granted bail, and the other five were remanded.

The case centers around accusations that two house helps of the former minister, Patience Botwe (18) and Sarah Agyei (30), stole significant sums of money and valuable items from Dapaah’s residence between July and October 2022. The stolen funds were allegedly shared with others.

Cecilia Dapaah resigned on July 22 amid public outcry, and on July 24, 2023, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) arrested her and conducted a search of her home. During the search, OSP officers reportedly discovered $590,000 and GHC2.730,000 in cash. Additionally, Dapaah’s seven bank accounts were frozen by the OSP.

Dapaah’s legal team contested the figures presented in court, and they argued that the OSP froze her accounts due to media attention. This case has sparked considerable controversy and attention within Ghana
