Former President John Dramani Mahama has described as baseless and vile propaganda a publication that says he is the fourth richest person in the country, and is worth around $900 million.

He urged Ghanaians to disregard and treat it with the contempt it deserved.

According to the statement signed by  the  Special Aide to the former President, Joyce Bawah Mogtari and copied the Ghanaian Times in Accra over the weekend, it was yet another attempt to discredit the good name and reputation of the former president, cause disaffection for him, and above all, undermine his leadership of selfless service.

The statement further accused some political opponents, especially surrogates of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) over carrying such a malicious publication against the Ex-Ghanaian leader, adding “these malicious false publications from obvious political opponents will be expected as Ghana approaches the 2024 elections, an election John Mahama will win”.

“It is obvious that this publication is part of a deliberate and discredited strategy by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to spread lies and seek to generate public disaffection for the leader and flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)-a man in whom many Ghanaians expressed their confidence, and are looking forward to his visionary leadership from January 7, 2025,” the statement stressed.

It added that the publication was an attempt to divert discussions on the debilitating economic crisis, as prices of goods and services had been skyrocketing, with inflation reaching an all time record mark of 46 per cent and advised the public to continue to hold the reigning party accountable to the happenings in the country on the economy.

The statement assured that former President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) remained resolved to an issue-based campaign that sought to salvage the people from “economic mismanagement and dissipation of state resources.
