Independent Presidential Hopeful Vows to Restore Strategic National Assets.
Independent presidential hopeful Alan Kyeremateng has promised to revive national carrier Ghana Airways and the country’s shipping lines if elected into office in 2024.
In a social media post on Monday, March 18, the leader of the Movement for Change political group said under his leadership, the government will work to restore Ghana’s strategic assets such as its shipping lines, national airline, and refineries.

“Under my leadership, government will work to restore Ghana’s strategic assets, such as its shipping lines, national airline, and refineries to provide needed Jobs, Services and reduce our reliance on foreign services,” Kyeremateng stated.
Ghana Airways was the former flag carrier airline of Ghana, operating from 1958 to 2005.
The airline offered regional and intercontinental flights from its hub at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
However, due to what some say was mounting debts and losses, Ghana Airways ceased all operations in June 2005 and its assets were liquidated.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah assured Ghanaians that the Ghana National Airlines would be back in operation by June or July 2023 but couldn’t come to pass.
“By June/July, we will see a Ghana National Airlines flying to and fro the borders of Ghana,” the Minister said at a press briefing at the Ministry of Information’s press center in Accra on Wednesday, March 29.
