Connecting Producers with Retailers and Wholesalers
The Adenta Community Garden, inaugurated in March 2024 with funding from the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana, hosted a one-day Fruit and Vegetable Fair on 22nd May 2024. This event was part of an initiative by the Horticultural Business Platform in collaboration with its partners, aimed at connecting local producers with a wider range of wholesalers and retailers.
The garden, located within the Frafraha Community Senior High School in Adenta, features a demonstration plot established by Holland Greentech Ghana. This plot promotes horticulture by sharing expertise and equipping community residents with skills in vegetable cultivation and entrepreneurship.
The event was honored by the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands, Liesje Schreinemacher, with a tour of the garden, followed by the opening of the mini fruit and vegetable fair. Emphasizing the importance of these collaborative efforts in driving economic growth and development in both countries.
The Dutch Combination Approach policy supports this initiative and aims to foster trade and investment while strengthening economic ties between the Netherlands and Ghana. It involves the implementation of innovative financing and business models, promoting private sector development, and encouraging significant involvement from Dutch and Ghanaian businesses, knowledge institutions, and NGOs, particularly in the sectors of horticulture and cocoa.
