In a thrilling week 4 encounter of the ongoing 2024 Greater Accra Handball League, the Ghana Army Handball Men’s team ended the winning streak of league leaders Cantonment Youth with a commanding 21-17 victory. This win propelled the soldiers to the top of the league table, drawing the attention of handball enthusiasts to the Prisons Handball Court.
Before the match, Cantonment Youth were leading the men’s table with an impressive 6 points from 3 matches, while Ghana Army had garnered 4 points from their 3 matches. The clash was highly anticipated, and the teams did not disappoint, delivering an action-packed game that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
In another exciting men’s game, the Extinguishers narrowly defeated Air Force with a final score of 22-21. The match saw the Eagles dominating the first half with a 19-17 lead, but the Extinguishers, led by the outstanding goalkeeping of Rephael Otto, managed to turn the tide in the second half.
Elsewhere in the men’s division, Ghana Prisons eked out a close 20-19 victory over Ghana Police, while Navy cruised past EL Wak Wings with a 30-26 win.
The women’s division also witnessed intense competition. Ghana Prisons humbled the league leaders Police with a 22-20 victory. Air Force dominated Fire, finishing with a 25-11 scoreline. The Ghana Army Women’s team dismantled Cantonment Youth with a resounding 35-12 victory, marking their comeback in the league standings.
