Nuumo Gbelenfo III, Acting President of the Osu Traditional Council, has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo to promptly approve the anti-LGBTQ bill to avoid God’s wrath on Ghana. He made this plea during a courtesy call by bill proponents to announce plans for a protest on August 21 against the delay in the bill’s transmission for presidential assent.
If marriage was only between people of the same gender, we would have seen our president marry a man. But this is not the case. So, I am pleading with the President to do the right thing and sign the bill into law so that Ghana does not face God’s wrath”
The National Chief Imam, Sheik Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, also emphasized the importance of the bill, urging a peaceful protest.
The call for the bill’s approval reflects widespread support among traditional and religious leaders in Ghana. They argue that approving the anti-LGBTQ bill is crucial for maintaining the country’s moral and cultural values, and preventing what they see as divine retribution.
