The Rwandan Embassy in Ghana hosted a reception in Accra to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Rwanda’s national liberation day, known as Kwibohora 30. The event, held on Friday, brought together diplomats, business leaders, Ghanaian government officials, and members of the Rwandan community in Ghana to honor the historic occasion.
Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Rosemary Mbabazi, highlighted the strong ties between the two nations, which have been bolstered by various agreements in tourism, trade, and economic cooperation since the opening of Rwanda’s first resident mission in Ghana in 2020. The ambassador also noted the increased movement between the two countries, facilitated by regular Rwandair flights connecting Accra and Kigali.
Reflecting on Rwanda’s history, Mbabazi recounted the horrific genocide against the Tutsi in 1994, which claimed over one million lives. She praised the Rwandese Patriotic Army, led by then-Major Paul Kagame, for ending the genocide and rebuilding the nation into a unified and prosperous country.
Deputy Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, commended President Kagame’s visionary leadership and Rwanda’s remarkable progress in achieving peace, reconciliation, and economic transformation. The event served as a reminder of the sacrifices made and the resilience of the Rwandan people in their journey toward national unity.
