There was drama in an Accra Circuit Court when two of three accused persons admitted to stealing goats from the Teshie Camp Two area in Accra. Emmanuel Agyei, also known as Obama, and David Agyei, a borehole driller, both pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and stealing. The duo confessed to stealing goats on August 8, 2024, but denied involvement in the theft of nine foreign-breed goats valued at $13,500, which were reported stolen by complainant Seidu Yakubu.
In their courtroom confessions, the accused claimed that the goats they stole were locally bred and not the foreign breeds that were the subject of the charges. Despite their admissions, they maintained that they were not responsible for the theft of the more valuable livestock identified by the complainant.
The court, presided over by Superintendent of Police Augustine Yirenkyi, convicted the two men but deferred sentencing until September 2, 2024. Meanwhile, a third accused, Baba Musah, who pleaded not guilty to charges of dishonestly receiving stolen goods, has been remanded into police custody as investigations continue.
The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting issues of livestock theft and the challenges of distinguishing between different breeds in such cases.
