Antonio Riano, a U.S. fugitive known as “El Diablo” or “The Devil,” has been captured in Mexico after evading authorities for two decades. Riano, who was wanted for a 2004 murder in Ohio, was found working as a local police officer in Oaxaca, Mexico. The U.S. Marshals Service, in collaboration with Mexican authorities, arrested Riano in his hometown of Zapotitlan Palmas on August 5, 2024.
Riano fled the U.S. after being charged with the murder of Benjamin Becarra, who was shot outside a bar in Hamilton, Ohio. Despite being featured on “America’s Most Wanted,” Riano managed to avoid capture for years. His arrest came after renewed efforts by U.S. authorities, who used social media and other investigative tools to track him down.
Following his capture, Riano was extradited to the U.S. and is now being held without bond in the Butler County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of murder and one count of felonious assault. Riano is scheduled to appear in court on August 12, where he will face the charges that have loomed over him for the past two decades.
