The Ghana Baseball & Softball Federation (GBSF) has breathed new life into its Koshien Field, marking a significant milestone in the revival of baseball and softball in Ghana. This eco-friendly field, made from locally sourced materials, is strategically located near the coast and features a minimalist design.
Under the leadership of GBSF President Ernest Danso, the project included the installation of a durable net, construction of thatched dugouts, and the ongoing development of a modern washroom. A 24-hour security post, currently under construction, will ensure the safety of both players and spectators, with the area well-lit for added security.
The GBSF extends heartfelt thanks to the many organizations and individuals who contributed to this project, including Stanbic Bank Ghana, Baobab Africa, B-Foster Bread, Njet, Scoreboard Restaurant, DC Glitz Hotel, and J-ABS. The Japan Baseball & Softball Foundation (J-ABS), led by Mr. Shinya Tomonari, played a pivotal role by raising funds in Japan through crowdfunding to renovate the dugout, scoreboard, and backstop. Mr. Tomonari also donated essential equipment.
Special thanks go to the Keio University Baseball Club Volunteers for their commitment to enriching the lives of children. Additionally, JICA-Ghana provided critical support by offering accommodation and allowances for local coaches.
The renovation of Koshien Field was a collaborative effort involving coaches, senior players, and volunteers from both Ghana and Japan. Key contributors included Daniel Obeng Asiamah, Daniel Kotey, Sharif Mohammed, Lawrence Kyei Baffour, Jerry Dovlo, Wadda Yoshinori, Yoko Sakaguchi, and Kojima Hiroki.
The GBSF acknowledges the invaluable support of the Ministry of Youth & Sports, the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Education Service, the National PE Coordinator, and all Regional PE Coordinators. The GBSF’s regional chapters, GBSF-Central and GBSF-Eastern, also played crucial roles in motivating and assisting coaches and teams in preparation for the Championship.
To the schools represented in the regional teams, we commend your hard work and dedication. Let us continue to strive for excellence in the upcoming terms.
