The University of Media Arts and Communication (UniMAC), in collaboration with Sony Middle East and Africa, organized a groundbreaking two-day photography workshop in Accra. This event marks Sony’s first photography training in Ghana, reflecting the company’s strategic goal to expand its presence in West Africa. The workshop aimed to introduce participants to Sony’s advanced camera technology and provided hands-on sessions to enhance their photography skills.
Stanley Opong-Yeboah, Head of Technical at UniMAC, praised the partnership, emphasizing the importance of training for Ghanaian photographers. He noted that Sony’s superior products have already strengthened the photography industry in Nigeria, and Ghana could greatly benefit from similar support. Opong-Yeboah hinted at the potential for Sony to establish a local outlet in Ghana if the market response is positive.
During the workshop, Sony’s trainer, Kaleem Salem, demonstrated the capabilities of Sony Alpha models, highlighting their advanced features that reduce production costs while delivering high-quality images. Salem emphasized that while smartphones have become popular for photography, they cannot replace the superior quality and versatility offered by dedicated Sony cameras, particularly in professional settings like wildlife photography.
This workshop signals Sony’s commitment to empowering Ghanaian photographers, providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to elevate their craft. The partnership between UniMAC and Sony represents a significant step forward in developing the photography industry in Ghana.
