Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with the United Nations to support Africa’s peace, stability, and development during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Beijing. The discussion took place during the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Xi emphasized that China’s collaboration with Africa is based on mutual respect and genuine multilateralism, with no selfish interests. He reiterated his vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, where people, including Africans, can enjoy better lives.

Guterres praised China’s continued support for Africa, acknowledging its role in addressing historical injustices through cooperation and investment. The UN Secretary-General stressed the need for multilateralism and equitable global governance, areas where China has consistently offered its support.

Both leaders expressed their commitment to future collaboration, particularly in the areas of financial reform and governance, aiming to create a more just international system that benefits all nations, especially in Africa.
