The Pig Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has issued a call to action, encouraging Ghanaians, particularly potential pig farmers, to join their ranks.

The appeal was made by the General Secretary, George Ayarick at the ongoing 2-Day Africa Pig International Conference (APICON) in Accra.

Ayarick emphasized that expanding membership is crucial for the association’s progress and individual farmers’ success.

As the umbrella body responsible for pig farmers’ welfare in Ghana, PFAG plays a vital role in promoting the industry’s growth. By joining the association, farmers gain access to valuable resources, training, and networking opportunities.

PFAG’s efforts have contributed significantly to Ghana’s development and economy, as well as improved livelihoods for pig farmers. Under the leadership of President Kwame Appiah Danquah, the association has made notable strides in enhancing the pork industry.

Ayarick highlighted the challenges faced by pig farmers, including lack of government support and appropriate lands and financial funding due to their limited numbers.

He stressed that increasing membership would amplify the association’s voice, enabling them to secure more substantial support from the government.

“By joining forces, pig farmers can address common challenges and capitalize on opportunities for growth. Participating in conferences and training programs is also  essential for PFAG members, as it keeps them informed about current market trends, technological advancements, and best practices.” He said.

Ayarick encouraged members to take advantage of these opportunities, which would, in turn, enhance their farming skills and productivity.

To boost membership, PFAG plans to conduct official field visitations, regional tours, and data collection. These initiatives aim to engage potential members, provide valuable insights into the industry, and demonstrate the association’s commitment to supporting pig farmers.

“With a growing membership and collective efforts, PFAG is poised to drive Ghana’s pig industry forward. “We need to come together to address our challenges and explore opportunities for growth.” He stated.

“By joining PFAG, pig farmers can contribute to a more robust, sustainable, and prosperous industry, ultimately benefiting Ghana’s economy and their own livelihoods”. Mr. George Ayarick, secretary, PFAG stressed.
