The 2024/25 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League season began with thrilling action from Friday, October 18 to Monday, October 21, across both the Northern and Southern Zones.
This season welcomed four debutant teams, including Sung Shining and Fosu Royal Ladies in the Northern Zone and in the Southern Zone, Epiphany Warriors and Halifax Ladies.
Defending Super Cup champions, Dreamz Ladies, made a strong statement with a 3-0 win over Tamale Super Ladies. Other results in the Northern Zone saw Kumasi Sports Academy triumph 3-1 over Supreme Ladies, Northern Ladies edge FC Savannah 1-0, and Ampem Darkoa continue their rivalry with Prisons Ladies, defeating them 2-0. Foso Royal Ladies also marked their league debut with a 2-0 victory over Sung Shining.
In the Southern Zone, debutants Epiphany Warriors shocked former Super Cup champions Faith Ladies with a 2-0 win. Army Ladies cruised past Soccer Intellectuals 2-0, while Police Ladies claimed an emphatic 4-0 away victory over Lady Strikers. Jonina narrowly beat Halifax 1-0, and reigning champions Hasaacas Ladies dominated Berry Ladies with a 4-0 scoreline at Gyandu Park.
A total of 12 goals were netted in the Northern Zone, with 2 away and 3 home victories. In the Southern Zone, 13 goals were recorded, resulting in 4 home and 1 away win.
Week 1 of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League saw an impressive tally of 25 goals across both zones, with Hasaacas Ladies’ Mercy Attohbrah bagging the first hat-trick of the season.
The league promises an exciting season ahead as teams battle for supremacy.
