Ghana’s national women’s rugby team has been announced, consisting of 12 players and 4 officials, ahead of the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s tournament this weekend. 

The team includes Anita Halm, Haruna Nimatu, Barikisu A. Mumuni, Jamila Awal, Paulina Y. Mensah, Radha Arthur, Racheal D.N Tawia, Sheila Tettey, Mary Plange, Grace Aduntira, Patience Musah, and Kadija Adams. Rafatu Inusah will serve as team manager, with Marvin Chirume as head coach, Jeffery Chiwanda as assistant coach, and Sani M. Issah as team medic.

The 2-day championship is scheduled to take place from November 9-10, 2024, at the University of Ghana Rugby field. A total of 12 nations have confirmed their participation, including Ghana as the host, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Mauritius, Tunisia, Zambia, Cote D’Ivoire, and Senegal.

South Africa’s women’s team is considered a strong contender, having won the Africa Women’s Sevens title previously. The team has been training hard and is aware of the pressure to perform. Other teams, such as Zimbabwe and Kenya, will also be looking to make an impact in the tournament.

The Rugby Africa Women’s 7s tournament serves as a platform for African teams to showcase their skills and compete for the top spot. The tournament is also an important step towards the 2025 Rugby World Cup, with teams looking to gain valuable experience and points.
