A massive fire erupted Monday night at a prominent furniture warehouse on Accra’s Spintex Road, reducing the entire structure to ruins and inflicting severe financial losses. The fire, which broke out around 9 p.m., prompted an immediate response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), with the Kasapreko Command arriving first at the scene to contain the blaze.
The warehouse was filled with highly flammable materials, such as foam and upholstery products, which intensified the flames and complicated the firefighting efforts. To tackle the fire, the GNFS deployed foam concentrate, a specialized agent effective against fires fueled by flammable materials.
Public Relations Officer Alex King Nartey of the GNFS described the challenging circumstances in a live Facebook update, noting the rapid reinforcement response from multiple GNFS stations, including Headquarters, Trade Fair, University of Ghana, and Abelemkpe. This coordinated effort successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby warehouses and properties, averting a larger disaster in Accra’s busy commercial area.
After nearly three hours of intense firefighting, the GNFS team successfully extinguished the blaze by 11:30 p.m., containing the incident to a single structure and safeguarding the surrounding area.
