Ghanaian highlife musician Kofi Nti has announced a successful settlement in his copyright dispute with acclaimed American producer Tyler Perry. The case arose after Perry’s studio used Nti’s song “Odo Nwom,” featuring Ofori Amponsah, without permission in a behind-the-scenes clip for the popular series Sistas.

In an interview on Onua TV, Kofi Nti revealed that a significant financial agreement was reached after his UK-based legal team contacted Perry’s representatives, initiating negotiations. “We have solved the issue, and a little money was involved,” he stated, satisfied with the outcome.

The situation first gained attention in June 2024 when Tyler Perry Studios posted an Instagram video containing “Odo Nwom,” sparking conversations about copyright infringement across social media. Fans and industry insiders alike noted the apparent lack of authorization, which led Nti and his team to seek legal recourse.

“Odo Nwom” was released in 2004 as part of Nti’s Rakia Odo Lastic album, marking him as a prominent figure in Ghana’s highlife music scene. Known for other hits like “Rakia” and “Bra,” Kofi Nti’s work has continued to resonate within and beyond Ghanaian music circles.
