The Electoral Commission (EC) has rescheduled Special Voting for the Eastern and Western Regions to Thursday, December 5, following the recall of ballot papers due to a broken seal on materials.
Initially planned for Monday, December 2, the change was announced by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held in Accra on Sunday, December 1.
Jean Mensa explained that the Eastern Region’s electoral materials were discovered with a broken seal, prompting the recall and reprinting of ballot papers. Although no issues were reported with the Western Region’s materials, the EC opted to reprint ballots for both regions as the same printing press handled materials for both.
Special Voting in other regions will continue as scheduled on December 2.
The EC reassured stakeholders of its commitment to a credible electoral process, urging all parties to remain patient and cooperative. The decision underscores the EC’s efforts to uphold transparency and maintain public trust ahead of the December 7 general elections.
