The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has attributed delays in the 2024 WASSCE post-examination processes to the government’s failure to release an outstanding debt of GHC118 million owed by the Ministry of Education.
According to WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, while the marking of essays and practical components has been successfully completed, faulty scanners required to process objective exam papers have stalled progress.
In a statement released on December 9, 2024, WAEC explained that the funds are urgently needed to repair the scanners and facilitate the completion of the post-examination processes. The Council assured the public of its commitment to releasing results as soon as the challenges are resolved.
“The Council is awaiting the release of additional funds out of the outstanding balance of GHC118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education to enable the scanning process and other post-examination processes to continue smoothly,” the statement read.
WAEC also appealed to suppliers and examination officials for patience, promising that payments for their services would be processed once the Education Ministry releases the funds. Additionally, the Council urged the public to disregard rumors circulating on social media about the release dates for the results, emphasizing that official announcements would follow after the completion of all pending activities.
