Sam George Denounces Fake Image Amid Ministerial Approval
Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, has strongly condemned a doctored image falsely depicting him watching adult content during parliamentary proceedings.
The newly approved Minister for Communications, Digital Technology & Innovations believes the image is part of a smear campaign by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) aimed at blocking his nomination.
During a parliamentary session on February 4, 2025, Samuel Abu Jinapor, MP for Damongo, referenced the image while rebuking Sam George. However, after Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga pointed out that the image was unverified, Jinapor retracted and apologized.
Reacting on Facebook, Sam George accused the NPP of desperation, stating:
“It is clear to me that the NPP is so hurt by my nomination as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations and would stop at nothing to fight it.
“After failing to mobilize their own Caucus in Parliament to vote against my nomination, they have resorted to a smear campaign and cheap lies with fake photos.”
He further vowed to tighten regulations on misinformation and disinformation, promising reforms in the digital space to curb the spread of fake news.
Sam George Officially Approved as Minister
Despite the controversy, Sam George was approved by Parliament late on Tuesday and expressed gratitude on social media.
“Late last night, I received approval from @parliament.gh to be sworn in by H.E. @officialjdmahama as the next Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations of the Republic of Ghana.”
He pledged to implement major reforms in the sector, emphasizing his commitment to resetting Ghana’s digital landscape.
