New Wage Takes Effect on March 1, 2025

The Government of Ghana has announced a 10% increase in the National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW), raising it to GH¢19.97, effective March 1, 2025. This decision follows the conclusion of negotiations by the National Tripartite Committee (NTC) at a meeting held on February 20, 2025, in Accra.

A communique confirming the decision was signed by Dr Abdul-Rashed Hassan Pelpuo, Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment; Dr Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodee, President of the Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA); and Mr Joshua Ansah, Secretary-General of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC). The wage adjustment is in accordance with Section 113 (1) (a) of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).

The NTC considered factors such as Ghana’s economic challenges, the cost of living, business sustainability, and the need for employment growth in determining the new minimum wage. The committee emphasized that all employers must comply with the new rate from March 1, 2025, and warned that sanctions will apply to any institution or organization that fails to adhere to the updated wage.

In addition, the NTC recommends that the 2025 National Daily Minimum Wage should be tax-exempt to ease the financial burden on workers and improve living standards.
