Shericka Jackson never looked threatened on Friday night (21 July) at the Monaco Diamond League 2023.

The reigning women’s world 200m champion eased to victory in a packed field, clocking 21.86 to beat recent collegiate champion Julien Alfred of St. Lucia who was second with 22.08.

Former world champion Dina Asher-Smith produced a season’s best of 22.23 in third, while recent American champion and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Gabby Thomas faded to seventh place with a 22.67.

All four women are set to feature at next month’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Jackson remains unbeaten over 200m this season with her 21.71 at the Jamaican national championships second only to Thomas’ 21.61 at U.S. nationals on the same day (9 July).

“It was great for me today. Last time I was second here, so to come here and take the win, it is really really good,” Jackson said after. “I have three competitIons in a week so it is a bit hard for me. One more coming up, it will be London [Diamond League]. This season I focus on myself and I just stay in my lane.”

She added: “I want to make sure I am on the top of my shape in Budapest.”
