Escape artist kangaroo captured near Toronto after days on the run
A runaway kangaroo, nicknamed “Nathan,” was successfully captured east of Toronto after several days on the loose. The marsupial, which had been en route to a zoo in Quebec, made a bid for freedom during a stop at the Oshawa Zoo.
Local authorities, including the Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, spotted the elusive kangaroo on a rural property in north Oshawa. The capture was not without incident, as the feisty female kangaroo reportedly punched one of the officers in the face during the apprehension.
Cameron Preyde, park supervisor and head keeper for the Oshawa Zoo and Fun Farm, expressed relief at the safe recovery of the kangaroo. The animal, born and raised in captivity, underwent a medical checkup and is currently recovering at the Oshawa Zoo. However, lingering questions remain about the circumstances of its escape and the need for improved regulations surrounding the transport of exotic animals.
The escape artist kangaroo’s adventure captivated social media, with videos of its exploits circulating widely. Despite the challenges faced during the pursuit, the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and zoo staff led to a successful resolution, demonstrating the commitment to ensuring both public safety and the welfare of the runaway marsupial.
