Abeiku Santana Boosts West African Cruise Tourism Efforts
Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, has been appointed to the strategic management team of the Cruise West Africa Alliance. This initiative, formed at the Global Seatrade Cruise Exhibition in Miami, aims to enhance cruise tourism along the West African coast.
The alliance, comprising Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia, is focused on promoting the sub-region as a unified cruise destination. This collaboration seeks to boost tourism in these countries by improving infrastructure, sharing resources, and creating a cohesive marketing strategy.
Mr. Aggrey highlighted the immense potential for cruise tourism in West Africa, citing the region’s rich cultural heritage, beautiful coastlines, and diverse ecosystems. He emphasized the economic benefits, including job creation and support for local businesses, that could arise from increased cruise activity.
As part of the strategic management team, Santana will work alongside Mr. Aileya Alie Kargbo from The Gambia and Mr. David DiGregorio from Sierra Leone to advance the alliance’s goals. They aim to position West Africa as a competitive player in the global cruise market, with countries like Ghana becoming major cruise destinations.
