Spintex Knights faced off with rivals Nungua Coldstore in Men’s Division 1 encounter of the 2025 Accra Basketball League at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on Saturday, August 23.
The much anticipated clash drew basketball lovers, veterans, and players to the stadium for the second-round showdown. Knights’ starting five, Botchway Treasure, Siaw Elvis, Omari Benjamin, Ashitei Benjamin, and Bassey Effiong tipped things off, but Coldstore came out stronger in the first quarter. With sharp long passes, big rebounds, and strong defensive blocks, Coldstore frustrated the Knights, forcing them into an 18-9 first-quarter defeat.
The Knights, however, regrouped in the second quarter with a renewed defensive strategy and overturned the scoreline to lead 35-28 at halftime. Coach Salorm and his technical team kept busy during the break, drilling instructions and tactical details to ensure their side kept control. By the third quarter, the Knights had stretched their lead to 57-35 and sealed victory in the fourth with a comfortable 68-57 win.
Henry, who was named Player of the Match, praised his teammates after the game; “I feel great. It was a team effort. I didn’t do it alone. Thanks to my teammates. I mean, all I need to do is, like, work harder to make my teammates look good.”
Coach Salorm also reflected on the victory and the rivalry with Coldstore; “I mean, it’s just what it always is whenever we play against Coldstore they always come in with brute force, showing that they want to win it. That’s what happened in the first quarter. We had to just reorganize and say, hey, we have to do better than what we did. I think we just started off slow. We weren’t rebounding them, and that cost us. But once we spoke about it, we started turning them over, going full-court press, knocking down our shots, and that really helped us.”
He added; “we are the defending champions, so if there’s anything anyone has to prove, it’s them, not us. We just came in here to do what we’ve done at practice. We thank God for this win and the technical staff, playing body, and supporters for their prayers and support.”
