Week 2 of the Accra Basketball League Division 1 saw intense action from both the men’s and women’s divisions. One of the headline fixtures was the clash between reigning champions Spintex Knights and the University of Ghana, held under the floodlights at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on Friday night.

The Knights, determined to bounce back from their game one performance, delivered a commanding 11-point win over UG.

The game began evenly, with both sides locked at 13-13 just seven minutes in. The University of Ghana kept a tight defense on the Knights and managed to edge the first quarter 17-18. However, the reigning champions responded strongly in the second quarter, widening the gap with a 41-26 lead.

After the halftime break, the Knights maintained control, ending the third quarter at 53-42. Despite a late push by UG, the Knights sealed the game with a final score of 70-59.

Speaking after the match, Spintex Knights head Coach Salorm Thomas said; “We came out here to win the game, and that’s what we did. We just tried to do some of the little things we missed in game one. Today, I think we were better, though a little sluggish toward the end. But the strategy was not to worry about the score but just focus on the little, little things that make us who we are as a team. “

“We’ll keep coming here, keep delivering, and keep doing what we’re supposed to do. Every single day in practice, we work on what we missed in the previous game. We’ll go back, review today’s performance, and continue building from there, coach Salorm added.

Captain Omari Benjamin had 15 game points with 2 assists and 7 rebounds.
