<strong>Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa<strong>

Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, an opposition lawmaker, has accused the Minister of Sanitation of making false statements about evacuation plans for flood victims. He specifically pointed to the Minister’s claim that an evacuation plan was offered to the residents, which they refused.

Ablakwa expressed his frustration with the government’s handling of the flood victims, describing their approach as lackadaisical. He urged government officials to cease making false claims and called for transparency.

He also mentioned that Members of Parliament in the affected areas are preparing to file a motion in parliament to initiate a full-scale investigation into the disaster. The goal is to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable. Ablakwa emphasized that they would demand full compensation for the victims.

The Sanitation Minister, in her comments, cited the Akosombo spillage incident and stressed the importance of evacuation plans. However, Ablakwa challenged these claims and demanded evidence of constructed facilities where residents were supposed to move.

The flood disaster in Mepe and other parts of the Volta Region has led to significant rescue efforts, with the Ghana Armed Forces revealing that about 12,000 individuals have been rescued during the disaster.
