The Ghana Police Service has announced a four-day roadblock in Accra, starting from September 21 to September 24, 2024. The roadblock, part of special police operations, will affect several major routes across the Greater Accra Region. The move aims to address rising security concerns and ensure public safety.
Key roads affected include the stretch from the AU Roundabout to 37 Roundabout and the CBD to Independence Avenue. Motorists traveling from Madina to Accra will face diversions at the 37 Roundabout, with alternative routes provided via Obasanjo Highway and Dr. Liman Highway. Several key diversion points, including Castle Road and Ridge Roundabout, will assist drivers in navigating around the blockades.
The police have deployed officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to manage traffic flow and assist motorists. Pedestrians are also advised to avoid the affected areas for their safety. This operation follows recent increases in security-related incidents in the city.
Motorists are urged to plan their journeys accordingly to minimize disruptions. The police assured the public that the roadblocks are temporary and are necessary to maintain law and order in the capital.
