Minister of roads and highways announces progress and unveils phases.

The Accra-Tema Motorway Expansion Project has commenced, with the first phase covering a 19.5-kilometer stretch from the Tetteh Quarshie roundabout to the Tema roundabout. Supervised by Maripoma Enterprise Limited, a Ghanaian-owned construction company, the project aims to enhance transportation infrastructure between Accra and Tema.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, announced the progress during a tour of ongoing road projects in Accra. He outlined the three phases of the expansion project: the first phase from Tetteh Quarshie to Tema, the second phase from Tetteh Quarshie to Apenkwa, and the third phase from Apenkwa to Neoplan.

Minister Amoako-Attah expressed commitment to the speedy execution of the project and urged institutions with billboards along the route to remove them promptly. He emphasized that the country would witness a road evolution in 2024, marked by the commissioning of completed projects.

During the tour, the Minister and his team inspected ongoing drainage projects at Tema Community 11 and 12, as well as the Tema Motorway expansion project. He commended the progress of drainage work and emphasized the need for contractors to engage with communities before project commencement to ensure effective cooperation.

Minister Amoako-Attah emphasized the importance of quality work, stating that contractors delivering substandard work would face legal consequences. He urged contractors to prioritize the nation’s interests and strive for excellence in their projects. The Minister also highlighted the completion of work on the Tema bridge and the successful construction of 50 such bridges across the country. The Technical Director of Raceg Construction Limited, responsible for the Tema drainage system, assured Ghanaians of completing the work on schedule, with roadwork scheduled to start in March 2024.
