Two Police Officers Among Dead in Fatal Collision

A tragic head-on collision at Adanwomase, Kwabre East Municipality, Ashanti Region, on July 9, 2025, claimed five lives, including two police officers escorting a bullion van (AS 19 43-24). The van, reportedly speeding while overtaking on a hill, crashed into a Kia truck (AS 51 42-24) carrying cement, according to eyewitness Bright Ntem.

Emergency services arrived promptly but pronounced all five victims dead at the scene. The victims included two police officers, a civilian in his 50s, and two others, with the truck driver surviving in critical condition. The bullion van veered into the truck’s lane, causing severe damage to both vehicles, as confirmed by eyewitness Efo Mawusi.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause, with initial reports suggesting high-speed racing by the truck and a Toyota vehicle contributed. The crash, the first major incident on the reconstructed Bonwire-Adanwomase road, has sparked community outrage over reckless driving and overtaking practices.

The incident follows a pattern of deadly accidents in the region, like a March 2025 school bus crash that killed two. Authorities are under pressure to address road safety on Ghana’s highways, with calls for stricter enforcement to prevent such tragedies.

The loss has shaken Adanwomase, a kente weaving hub, prompting demands for better traffic monitoring. As investigations continue, the community mourns the victims, and police urge drivers to prioritize safety to avoid further loss of life.
