In a recent incident that shocked the nation, Adisadel College faced public scrutiny after a video emerged showing a distressing act of violence against a student on the school premises. Child Rights International Ghana, a prominent child advocacy agency, has now stepped in, urging the college’s management to reverse its decision to suspend the students involved in the assault.

The disturbing video captured a student violently locking the arms of the victim and repeatedly hitting his face against a metal bed, causing severe bleeding below the victim’s right eye. The gravity of the situation prompted widespread concern from the public, leading to calls for immediate action.

Child Rights International Ghana firmly asserts that the suspension meted out to the students implicated in the incident is excessively harsh and should be reconsidered. The organization has further demanded a thorough and proper investigation into the criminal nature of the act, aiming to obtain a comprehensive social enquiry report. This report will play a pivotal role in determining appropriate actions and punishment for all parties involved in the incident. It is expected to include considerations for the victim, the perpetrator, as well as non-participating students who may have encouraged the act.

The child advocacy agency has issued a statement questioning the role of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in this case, suggesting that the decision to dismiss the students lacks adequate basis from investigative channels and a social enquiry report. Consequently, Child Rights International Ghana urges the GES to rescind its decision and reinstate the students, unless their presence poses an extreme threat to other students. Any removal from the institution should be carried out in accordance with the relevant sections of the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560), with paramount consideration for the best interests of the children involved.

The public outcry surrounding this incident underscores the need for a fair and just resolution that upholds the safety and well-being of students within the education system. As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on Adisadel College and the Ghana Education Service to ensure that justice is served, and the appropriate measures are taken to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

Child Rights International Ghana’s call for the reinstatement of the suspended students and a comprehensive investigation into the criminality of the act resonates with the broader public’s concern for the protection of children’s rights and safety in educational institutions.
