Mahama Lunched Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative in Kumasi to Help 10,000 New Businesses
President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering young Ghanaians to launch and grow their businesses. The Adwumawura Programme, launched on April 28, 2025, in Kumasi, aims to transform youth ideas into sustainable enterprises by creating 10,000 youth-owned businesses each year for the next four years.
In his speech at the launch ceremony, President Mahama emphasized the programme’s commitment to real opportunities for young entrepreneurs. He highlighted that the initiative would provide business development training, funding access, mentorship, market support, and year-round business advisory services. This comprehensive support structure is geared towards both new start-ups and existing small businesses, accessible through an online portal.
The programme is fully funded, with necessary allocations secured under the 2025 national budget through the Ministry of Finance. Mahama stressed the difference between this initiative and previous ones, noting its solid financial backing and focus on tangible outcomes rather than superficial promises.
Overseen by the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), under the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, the Adwumawura Programme encourages inclusivity. It welcomes participants from diverse backgrounds, including those with minimal formal education, ensuring widespread access to entrepreneurial support.
Reflecting on the success stories of small enterprises evolving into major businesses, President Mahama expressed optimism about the potential for young Ghanaians to build ventures that not only improve their livelihoods but also contribute significantly to the national economy. With adequate support, the Adwumawura Programme promises to be a catalyst for economic growth and youth empowerment in Ghana.
