Stanbic Bank Ghana, on Thursday, 14th March, 2024 presented GH¢200,000 to Ghana’s contingent participating in the ongoing African Games.
The exercise which formed part of the entity’s corporate social responsibilities, is also geared towards motivating the whole participating contingent to glory.
Mr. Kwamina Asomaning, Chief Executive Officer for Stanbic Bank highlighted the importance of supporting the Ghanaian athletes. Adding that, its falls in line with their objectives.
He mentioned that, sports play critical role in the country’s economy and should be given huge attention.
“In the matter of sports, it has a way of not only driving social satisfaction but it has some economic benefits to the society. So the games that are being held fully in line with our purpose as an organization.
“The fact that Ghana is further hosting and promoting the games in the Sub-Region is a cause that we identified very strongly. He added.
With the availability of facilities provided by the government, Mr. Asomaning also envisaged total victory for Team Ghana.
Focusing on diversity and inclusion, Mr. Asomaning urged the various participating disciplines to thrive for success.
“So Stanbic put all these together and decided to come forward in what we knew as contribution to help augment what the government and other stakeholders have done.” He said.
Stanbic Bank Ghana, a member of the Standard Chatered Group has over the years contributed massively to sports development and promotion across the country.
“We had a long history in sports and with over time we are looking at diversifying our interest in sports. We have sponsored soccer tournaments, table tennis that also falls within our areas of focus. We have been active in volleyball, swimming and others as well. So what we are doing today for athletics falls within our desire to ensure focus in sports.” Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Mr. Kwamina Asomaning stressed.
On his part, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif commended Stanbic Bank for the massive support to the games.
Adding that, the it would help propel and motivate the athletes ahead of other upcoming games.
“On behalf of the president of the Republic, I want to personally thank you for the support and the encouragement you have shown to our athletes in the recent years. The token has come at the right time because we were putting things in place to clear bonuses of the athletes. So with this, we can also do more for them.”
Mustapha Ussif used the opportunity to encourage other entities to emulate the kind gesture from Stanbic Bank.
“I want to urge other companies to give their support to these athletes. Their support will go a long way to enable them push to win more laurels.”
In attendance at the brief presentation was the deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Evans Opoku Bobbie, Mawuko Afadzinu, marketing and communication manager for Stanbic Bank Ghana, Chairman for the LOC, Ofosu Asare, Chef de Mission, Ernest Danso among other dignitaries.
