Ghanaian singer addresses concerns to ensure compliance with copyright regulations.

Accra, Ghana – Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, the Ghanaian singer aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon, has submitted the list of songs she will perform to the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO). This follows concerns raised by GHAMRO Chairman, Rex Omar, who suggested that her sing-a-thon could be halted if the list of songs was not presented.

Rex Omar explained that submitting the list is essential to ensure that artists and copyright holders are duly recognized and compensated for the use of their intellectual property. While his suggestion drew mixed reactions on social media, with some criticizing him, others acknowledged the importance of complying with copyright regulations.

Afua Asantewaa’s mission is to showcase the diversity of Ghanaian music genres like gospel, highlife, and hiplife during her record-breaking attempt. The controversy arose when Rex Omar posted the list of songs on Facebook, prompting Afua Asantewaa to express her displeasure, calling it unacceptable and emphasizing the confidentiality of the document.

In response, Rex Omar apologized, stating that he was unaware the document was confidential and explaining that it was not indicated on the list brought to GHAMRO. The post has since been deleted, and efforts are being made to ensure compliance with copyright regulations for the Guinness World Record attempt.
