Defamation Case Hits Snag as Agradaa’s Lawyer Misses Hearing
Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, known as Nana Agradaa, said her lawyer missed a court hearing on June 11, 2025, because gospel singer Empress Gifty’s team served legal papers late. The hearing at the Tema High Court was part of a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit Gifty filed against Agradaa for alleged insults made in a May 13, 2025, social media video.
Agradaa explained that her lawyer couldn’t attend due to the late delivery of the court summons, which disrupted their preparation. She also filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing she insulted Gifty, not defamed her. Gifty’s team opposed this, pushing for an injunction to stop Agradaa from making further comments. The case is set for another hearing on June 26, 2025.
The feud began when Agradaa made harsh claims about Gifty and her husband, Hopeson Adorye, online, prompting the lawsuit. On May 26, Agradaa and her husband were seen discarding court documents after their first court appearance, escalating tensions. Gifty is seeking GH¢20 million in damages and the removal of Agradaa’s videos.
Both sides have traded jabs online, with Agradaa mocking Gifty’s actions and refusing to back down. Gifty, an award-winning gospel artist, has stood firm, citing harm to her reputation. The public is closely watching the case, which has sparked debate about free speech and accountability in Ghana’s entertainment scene.
The court’s next steps will decide if Agradaa’s motion to dismiss holds or if Gifty’s defamation claims move forward. For now, the delayed hearing has kept the legal battle in the spotlight, with both women standing their ground as the case unfolds.
