Former President Rejects Claims of Influencing Party Timeline

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says claims that he is trying to change the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming National Delegates Conference or presidential primaries are completely false.

In a statement from his office, he made it clear that he hasn’t written any letter or made any suggestion to change the party’s timeline. The NPP has planned to hold the National Delegates Conference on July 19, 2025, and the presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, and Akufo-Addo says he hasn’t asked for these dates to be changed.

He called the recent rumours untrue and said they are just meant to cause confusion. He also said he fully respects the party’s rules and how decisions are made.

Akufo-Addo explained that he wasn’t at the meeting where these dates were decided, and he won’t be at the July 19 conference either — but he’ll send a goodwill message to be read on his behalf.

I haven’t said anything about the dates, and I don’t plan to.”

He also advised party members to use the proper ways within the party to solve any problems, instead of spreading rumours in public.

His message seems to be a way to calm things down and make it clear that he is not involved in any behind-the-scenes plans as the party gets ready for an important election period.
