Kumasi Airport Set to Be Commissioned as Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport

The Kumasi Airport, now renamed Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport, is set to be commissioned on Friday, May 10, by President Akufo-Addo, accompanied by Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and other dignitaries.

Currently undergoing equipment testing for both domestic and international flights, the airport is expected to commence full operations by June this year. With a capacity to accommodate over 800,000 passengers annually, primarily from the northern and middle belt regions, the airport is poised to meet the increasing demand for air travel.

Managed by the Ghana Airport Company Limited, the facility is expected to create new opportunities for hoteliers and tourism operators in the region. The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Hoteliers Association, George Arkoh Mensah, expressed optimism about the airport’s impact on the hospitality industry, estimating that over 50,000 people will visit Kumasi or the Ashanti Region, with almost 80% being accommodated by the Ghana Hotel Association, leading to increased productivity and income.
