New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag-bearer aspirant, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, expressed his commitment to take up the mantle left by the late President Jerry John Rawlings as the godfather of the Volta Region. Addressing enthusiastic delegates from various constituencies at gatherings in Aflao, Ketu South, Dzodze in the North, and Sogakope in Central Tongu, Kyerematen urged the Voltarians to support him in the November NPP primaries and the 2024 elections to become the President of Ghana.
Popularly known as Alan Cash, Kyerematen highlighted his belief that he embodies some of the charisma and qualities of the late President Rawlings. He passionately appealed to the Voltarians to extend the same love and support they had for Rawlings to him, vowing to continue the positive role played by the late President in the region’s development.
Despite the Volta Region being considered a traditionally challenging area for the NPP, Kyerematen expressed confidence in changing the political dynamics, driven by the belief in the people’s love for him. He emphasized the need for a leader who has been tried and tested, holding nationwide appeal, and assured the delegates that he is the only candidate capable of going “boot-for-boot” with the opposition NDC, even in their stronghold.
Furthermore, Kyerematen promised to improve the fortunes of the Volta Region and party executives by implementing a scheme to provide them with monthly salaries if elected as the NPP flagbearer. He urged the delegates to make bold decisions without succumbing to intimidation and vote overwhelmingly in his favor to enable the NPP to “break the eight” and win the national elections.
Supporting Kyerematen’s candidacy, the Minister for Railways and MP for Hohoe, Hon John Peter Amewu, encouraged delegates to stand strong and vote for the aspirant without fear of repercussions. He emphasized that his open support for Kyerematen, despite being a cabinet minister, had not met any admonishment from the President.
In conclusion, Alan Kyerematen’s impassioned assurance to carry on Rawlings’ legacy and dedication to the development of the Volta Region has ignited enthusiasm among the NPP delegates. As the November NPP primaries approach, the party members in the Volta Region must now decide whether to rally behind Kyerematen’s vision for Ghana’s future and his promises of positive change for their region and the nation as a whole
