Former GIIF Chairman, Ameyaw-Akumfi, Granted Bail in $2m Fraud Case
Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), was granted GH¢10 million bail with two sureties backed by landed property in Greater Accra on May 26, 2025. He must deposit his passport and report weekly to investigators.
Ameyaw-Akumfi pleaded not guilty to charges of wilfully causing financial loss, intentional dissipation of public funds, and conspiracy related to a $2 million transfer for the unbuilt Accra Sky Train project. The case was adjourned to June 10, 2025, for a case management conference.
He is standing trial with Solomon Asamoah, former GIIF CEO, accused of authorizing the unauthorized transfer to Africa Investor Holdings in February 2019 without board approval or due diligence, causing significant financial loss to the state.
Ameyaw-Akumfi missed two prior court appearances due to medical emergencies, including a hospital visit on May 20, 2025. Both defendants deny the charges and are preparing to defend themselves as the trial proceeds.
